What is Micro CT?

■Principles of CT (Computed Tomography)

A CT obtains 360o radioscopic image data of an inspection object placed on a sample table using an X-ray Image Intensifier or FPD (Flat Panel Detector) by turning the table while irradiating object with X-rays. This data is used in reconstruction calculations to generate cross-sectional images. Toshiba's Micro CT uses a Micro Focus X-ray generator as the X-ray source to obtain high-resolution cross-sectional images by enlarging images geometrically.


■Application Example

Since recently, electronic components and parts have been rapidly becoming preciser and denser. judgment of their internal form has become increasingly difficult. Radioscopic images do not allow correct and accurate inspection of the inside of components or parts that have complex structures. However, a CT scanner can detect fine defects, foreign materials, separation and other phenomena.
The Micro CT TOSCANER -30000hd series obtains correct sectional images of the interior of inspection objects that are of high precision and density, without destroying or contacting inspection objects. State-of-the-art technology allows high-precision and high-speed inspection, serving new applications in various fields.

The overwhelmingly high performance of 5m in spatial resolution is a powerful tool in R&D, pre-production, quality control, failure analysis and other purposes in the fields of ICs, semiconductor devices, electronic components, batteries, aluminum die castings and many other materials, parts and products.

The TOSCANER-20000AV industrial CT scanner series are suitable for large aluminum castings, small iron castings and other castings.

Functions and Features

■Spatial Resolution 5m or less

A high-resolution sensor and enhanced accuracy of image reconstruction software have achieved a spatial resolution of 5m or less, which is twice better than ealier models, and a high contrast.
A 1.4-million picture element (pixel) high-resolution camera has achieved a dramatic improvement in resolution compared with conventional 0.4-million pixel cameras.


■Picture quality improvement

Scattered radiation of X-rays is greatly reduced by a collimator filter mechanism, reducing image noises to obtain clear cross-sectional images. A contour emphasis frequency filter equipped as a standard unit helps to obtain high-contrast images.

■Excellent operability

You can control all necessary scanning operation through the workstation. The X-ray collimator mechanism and geometric distortion phantom switching mechanism are motorized to greatly reduce calibration time before scanning. The operability increases further when used with fully automated calibration. The X-ray filament can be replaced by one-touch action. (Click-in cathode system)

■Auto centering

All you need to do is just to set the work, and then the system will automatically calculate the scan center position, reconstruct the image and perform arithmetic operations. Troublesome centering jig setting, data acquisition and other preparations are eliminated, greatly enhancing operability and allowing CT operation just like fluoroscopy operation.

■Fully automated calibration (Option)

Necessary calibration for CT scanning is fully automated, significantly reducing calibration time.

■Cone beam CT (Option)

The data necessary for three-dimensional images (max. 1024 images) are acquired in a scan, generating 3D data quickly. This feature is very useful in reverse engineering. Display software with versatile 3D display functions is also provided. (Another option)

■Reverse engineering (Option)

CT cross sectional data is output by converting it into other formats such as STL and IGES. Data can be input to 3D CAD and to structural analysis software so as to perform dimension inspections and various analyses, further expanding the application range of CT.
